Plattsburgh Restaurants

There is no shortage of restaurants in Plattsburgh!  You’ll find a wide variety of menus, atmosphere, and hours, with plenty of take out and delivery options.

Many of the restaurants are located only a few blocks from campus in the Plattsburgh downtown area, several more are located uptown.   Uptown is also close by, but is a very busy traffic route.  Driving or taking a taxi is recommended if traveling uptown.

Trip Advisor has a nice list of our restaurants and includes links to web pages (when available), reviews, price range, and directions:

Or, here’s a map of all the listed restaurants:

The Local Arrangements Committee recommends:

Downtown (walking distance):

Livingoods:  This has a casual relaxed atmosphere, nice wine bar, and outdoor seating for those warm June nights.  The food is excellent–we recommend the cajun catfish bites or the flatbread pizza.

Geoffrey’s Pub: Just what it sounds like–an English-style pub (including the fish and chips).   They have a large outdoor seating area that overlooks the Saranac River.  This is a popular pub, so some nights can be quite noisy.

Irises Cafe & Wine Bar:  An elegant restaurant and wine bar in the heart of downtown Plattsburgh.  The food is expensive, but worth it and they have the best wine selection in town.

The Smoked Pepper: Excellent Mexican food, small and cozy.  This is a beautiful place with wonderful homemade guacamole.  Not your typical Mexican food!

Sawatadee: Excellent and very relaxing Thai and vegetarian restaurant in the heart of downtown.

The Great Adirondack Soup Company:  Only the best soup and sandwiches in town!  Organic bread used for all of the sandwiches.  Monday through Friday, 11am-5pm.

Downtown (recommend driving or taking a taxi):

Mickey’s Restaurant and Lounge: Probably the best Italian food and steaks in Plattsburgh.  Attached to the restaurant is a small sports bar.

Naked Turtle Holding Co.: This is a large indooor/outdoor restaurant and night club with lots of flair, adjacent to a boat dock on Lake Champlain.   Sit by the water and get a nice view of yacht life.  If you’re not into the club life, we recommend goiong early for dinner and leaving by 9pm.  If you go, be sure to visit their gift shop!

Michele’s: A relatively new French restaurant getting rave reviews.

North of Town: (driving or a taxi is needed):

Gus’s Red Hots: If you’ve never tried a North Country michigan red hot, you haven’t lived (bury the onions please)!

Uptown (recommend driving or taking a taxi):

The Butcher Block: This is a rustic steak house with a large salad bar and quiet atmosphere.  Probably the best Happy Hour in town.

Koto Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar: A beautiful and relaxing Japanese restaurant, with hibachi and a la carte options.

Hong Kong Jade Buffet: Large Chinese food buffet, good food, pleasant atmosphere, and very friendly staff.  This place is always busy!
